Chapter 4
Memory Interface
This chapter describes the ARM7TDMI-S memory interface. It contains
the following sections:
Section 4.1, “About the Memory Interface”

Section 4.3, “Bus Interface Signals”
Section 4.4, “Use of CLKEN to Control Bus Cycles”
4.1 About the Memory Interface
The ARM7TDMI-S core has a Von Neumann architecture with a single
32-bit data bus carrying both instructions and data. Only load, store, and
swap instructions can access data from memory.
The ARM7TDMI-S core supports four basic types of memory cycles:
nonsequential
sequential
internal
coprocessor register transfer
4.2 Bus Cycle Types
The ARM7TDMI-S bus interface is pipelined, and so the address class
signals and the memory request signals are broadcast in the bus cycle
ahead of the bus cycle to which they refer. This procedure gives the
maximum time for a memory cycle to decode the address, and respond
to the access request.
