The MCU may load an OMC by writing to the appropriate
OMC
register in the
csiop
array. Also, the
MCU may read an OMC by reading the same
OMC
register. An MCU load operation of an OMC register
at runtime will override any set, clear, or clock operation that is occurring in the NVM programmed logic.
Since there are more port pins than there are OMCs in the current PSD family, some OMCs are shared
between two ports. For example, the PSD6XX and 7XX have a total of 24 port pins on ports A, B, and C
but have 12 OMCs. In this case, eight OMCs are always associated with Port C, and four OMCs are shared
between ports A and B. Figure 9 illustrates this arrangement.

An internal device, called a MicroCell Allocator (see Figure 2), routes OMC output to the correct I/O port
based on the contents of the PSDabel file. For example, in the PSD6XX, the four shared OMCs of
MCELLAB can be allocated on a mixed basis, meaning that some of the OMCs can be routed to Port A,
and some can be routed to Port B.
The PSD8XX has 16 OMCs that are configured as shown in Figure 10. The PSD8XX shares eight OMCs
between ports A and B and shares the other eight OMCs between ports B and C.

We have just discussed the MicroCell Allocator for OMC outputs. Now look at the PT Allocator in Figure
8 which allocates the source of OMC inputs. Each OMC starts with a given amount of "native" product
terms to offer for the fitting of a design. The PT Allocator function is implemented by the PSDsoft fitter
utility in a manuver that is transparent to the user. The fitter will "borrow" up to a given amount of unused
PTs from nearby silicon resources. The end result is that up to nine PTs are available for OMCs in the
PSD6XX/7XX family and up to 10 PTs for OMCs in the PSD8XX family. The exact number of native and
borrowed PTs for each OMC is available in the PSD data sheets.
