In this design, Port A is used in 'Latched Address Output' mode. This means that the pins of Port
A will provide eight demultiplexed low order address lines to external peripherals or memory. If
these chip selects are not needed for external peripherals or memory, then the pins associated
with these signals and all of Port A can be used for general I/O.
MCM Configuration Using the PSDsoft Design Tool
PSDsoft is a suite of software tools that run in the Windows environment to:
* Implement design entry
* Create a minimized logic realization of the design
* Configure the options of the PSD device
* Fit the design within the PSD device
* blend the PSD device configuration with the MCU firmware
* Program the PSD device
Let's do these in order. First, invoke PSDsoft (v4.2x) by clicking on it's icon. You will see a
screen like this:
Now, go to the project
window as shown below
and select 'New
Project'. For this design,
make the project name
"mcm8031" as shown,
use the directory section
to point to the desired
directory to hold this
design, fill in the
description field, choose
the correct device and part name as shown, and finally, click on 'Select Template' and choose
the '8031 general' template. Click OK to begin design entry.
