External Program Memory Fetches
I/O Ports
All four ports of the AT_8032 macrocell contain an input
and an output. The output of Ports 0 and 2, and the input of
Port 0 are used for accessing external memory. When used
in this way, Port 0 outputs the low byte of the external
memory address, time-multiplexed with the byte being writ-
ten or read. Port 2 outputs the high byte of the external
memory address when the address is 16 bits wide. Other-
wise the Port 2 pins continue to emit the P2 SFR contents.
All the Port 3 pins and two Port 1 pins are multifunctional:
they also have several special features.
I/O Configurations
The port latch is a set of D-type flip-flops, which capture a
value from the internal bus in response to a
write to latch
signal from the microcontroller. The output of the flip-flops
is sent to the internal bus in response to a
read latch
sig-
nal sent by the microcontroller. It is the same for the level of
the port pin. Some instructions activate the
read latch
because they read a port; other instructions activate the
read pin
signal.
The output of Ports 0 and 2 can be switched between the
ADDR/DATA bus and the internal ADDR bus by an internal
control signal for use in external memory access. When
external memory is accessed, Port 2 SFR stays
unchanged, while Port 0 SFR has ones written to it.
Bi-directional Port Configuration
Each I/O line can be used separately as input or output. To
be used as input, the port bit latch has to contain a one; it
permits the output driver to be turned off. The pull-ups are
