Video Decoder Section
The video decoder section has a Y/C separation function for the composite input and a chroma decoder function.
Y/C separation separates composite video data to the Y (luminance) component and the C (composite
chrominance) component. During a vertical blanking interval, separation operation is not performed.
The Y/C separation is of a two-dimensional separation type that does not perform inter-field operation. The Y/C
separation process to be used varies according to the input video signal type. An Y/C separation filter mode can be
specified for each video signal type. (One mode only for SECAM). As the input video signal type, it is possible
to select whether to automatically detect the type from the periods of the horizontal and vertical sync signals and
the color burst signal that are regenerated by sync separation, or to use the specified mode as a fixed type.

Among the input video signal types, automatic detection is possible for the M/NTSC type (including J), the I, B,
B1, G, H, and D types of PAL, and the B, G, D, K, K1, and L types of SECAM, which are specified in the
Recommendation ITU-R BT.470. Since other types such as NTSC-443, N/PAL, and M/PAL are handled as
special formats, they must be selected explicitly by the control register.
The Y (luminance) data after Y/C separation can be processed by level adjustment (digital AGC) and picture
quality adjustment (aperture correction, coring, and edge enhancement).
The C (composite chrominance) data after Y/C separation or the C data at S-video input is separated into two
components, Cb and Cr, by a chroma decoder. The chroma decoder adjusts the level (digital ACC) based on the
color burst signal, performs UV decoding by generating a color subcarrier according to the video signal type, and
separates the data to the Cb data and Cr data through a low-pass filter. Hue adjustment is supported for the Cb and
Cr data.
When using an asynchronous sampling mode, processing to stabilize the line length is performed since the clock
count per line fluctuates due to the disturbance of the input synchronous signals.
Through these processing units, Y, Cb, and Cr data are adjusted to the data of the 4:2:2 format that complies with
the Recommendation ITU-R BT.601.
