Docking Support
The Controller supports a docking station system which contains a Secondary Codec. The DOCKSENSE input provides the
detection mechanism for switching between the two Codec interfaces. Note: When the Primary Codec interface is used, the
Secondary Codec is reset and vice-versa.
The Primary Codec interface consists of the BIT_CLK, SDATA_IN, SDATA_OUT, SYNC and RESET# pins. The Secondary
Codec interface consists of the BIT_CLKD, SDATA_IND, SDATA_OUT, SYNC and RESETD# pins. RESETD#, BIT_CLKD,
and SDATA_IND should be routed between the Controller Secondary Codec. The SDATA_OUT and SYNC signals are
shared between the interfaces, and should be routed to both primary and secondary codecs.
Switching Between Codecs
The DOCKSENSE pin input level determines which Codec is used. Because the data streams and, more importantly, the bit
clocks are being switched, the Controller must perform an Audio reset whenever switching from one Codec to the other.
When DOCKSENSE changes level (e.g., as a result of a laptop computer being inserted into the docking station), the
Controller immediately forces both Codec interfaces into the reset state by driving RESET# and RESETD# low. After about 2
us, the newly selected Codec will be released from reset. Over approximately the next 60
s, the Audio portion of the
Controller will proceed through a reset sequence. When complete, the Controller on-chip processor will re-boot and begin
operation, as if a PCI reset had occurred. From this point on, SDATA_OUT and SYNC are routed to the Docking Station
Codec, and the Laptop PC Codec is not used. Also, the Controller responds to SDATA_IND and BIT_CLKD rather than
S_DATA_IN and BIT_CLK.
The current docking state (docked or undocked) is also made available to the host PC.
