General Description
System Overview
RipTide System Hardware Components
The RipTide system hardware components are:
Audio Communications Controller (ACC or Controller) device in a 128-pin TQFP.
Audio Modem Codec (AMC or Codec) device in a 64-pin TQFP.
Audio Communications Controller (ACC or Controller). The Controller provides the processing core and interfaces for a
complete system featuring audio and communications (Figure 2. The Controller connects to the host PC via a PCI Bus
interface and implements 3 PCI logical functions: Audio, Modem and Joystick. The Controller conforms to the PCI Local Bus
Specification, Production Version, Revision 2.1 with a 32-bit PCI Local Bus interface and 33MHz PCI clock support.
Communication between the Controller and the Codec is via an AC ‘97 AC-link.
The Controller is packaged in a 128-pin TQFP (RACC011) and operates on +3.3V power with +5V tolerant inputs.
Audio Modem Codec (AMC or Codec). The Codec combines two coder/decoder functions, compliant with Intel Audio Codec
’97 2.1 Extensions for combo audio modem codec (AMC’97), into a 64-pin TQFP which supports one telephone line
(RAMC021).
The Codec operates on +3.3V power with +5V tolerant inputs and +5V power.
RipTide System Software Components
The RipTide system software components are:
Audio system software that supports applications for Windows 98 (WDM), Windows 95, Windows NT 4.0, Windows
2000, Sound Blaster Pro, Adlib/OPL3, MS DOS, or DOS box
WaveStream 64-voice software wavetable synthesis or optional Mega WaveStream software wavetable synthesis
V.90/K56flex modem system software that provides modem controller functions with MMX-based modem signal
processing
RipTide PC System Requirements
The minimum PC system requirements for a RipTide System solution is:
Pentium 200 MMX or compatible
Windows 98, Windows 95, Windows NT4.0, or Windows 2000
32 MB RAM
50 MB hard disk space
System Advantages
The RipTide solution moves both audio and communications functions from the 8 MHz ISA bus to the higher performance 33
MHz PCI Bus, leading to measurable CPU loading advantages and enhanced system reliability. The PCI Bus provides much
improved I/O bus loading and power management capabilities as compared to the ISA bus.
The scaleable RipTide architecture is designed to support:
Motherboard (desktop or notebook)
Custom form factor module (notebook)
PCI add-in card
