5.12 Timer / Counter
There are three 24-bit wide and one 32-bit wide timers/counters on the GT-64010A. Each one can be selected to oper-
ate as a timer or as a counter. In Counter mode, the counter will count down to terminal count, will stop and issue an
interrupt. In Timer mode, it will count down, will issue an interrupt on terminal count, and will reload itself to the pro-
grammed value and continue to count. Reads from the counter or timer are done from the counter itself, while writes
are to its register. For example, note that even though the registers are programmed to an initial value of ‘0’ the
counters will read 0xffffff. In order to reprogram a timer/counter, it should first be disabled, then it should be loaded with
a new value and after that it should be enabled as appropriate (counter or timer).
