This concept is introduced to enable the automatic execution of OAM functions by the AOP. For
each connection, VPC or VCC the layer point is configured at connection setup. Then the OAM
functions required for this layer point are executed automatically by the AOP. There are 3
different layer points:
End point EP
Segment end point SP
Intermediate point IP
End points and segment end points can be originating or terminating and can belong to a VPC
or a VCC; they are referenced as e.g. VPC originating end point VP-OEP or VCC terminating
segment point VC-TSP.
As an example a (terminating) segment end point would ignore arriving AIS cells, as AIS cells
have always the end-to-end identification. The same layer point would loop arriving forward
segment LB cells.
