The LTC4099 can also be easily protected against the
applicationofreversevoltage,asshowninFigure6.D1
andR1arenecessarytolimitthemaximumVGSseenby
MP1duringpositiveovervoltageevents.D1’sbreakdown
voltagemustbesafelybelowMP1’sBVGS.Thecircuit
showninFigure6offersforwardvoltageprotectionup
to MN1’s BVDSS and reverse-voltage protection up to
MP1’sBVDSS.

areindicatedonresistance-temperatureconversiontables.

TheLTC4099providestemperature-qualifiedchargingif
agroundedthermistorandabiasresistorareconnected
toNTC.Byusingabiasresistorwhosevalueisequalto
theroomtemperatureresistanceofthethermistor(R25),
theupperandlowertemperaturesarepreprogrammedto
approximately45°Cand0°C,respectively,whenusinga
Vishaycurve2thermistor.
Theupperandlowertemperaturethresholdscanbead-
justedbyeitheramodificationofthebiasresistorvalue
orbyaddingasecondadjustmentresistortothecircuit.
Ifonlythebiasresistorisadjusted,theneithertheupper
orthelowerthresholdcanbemodified,butnotboth.The
othertrippointwillbedeterminedbythecharacteristics
ofthethermistor.Usingthebiasresistor,inadditiontoan
adjustmentresistor,boththeupperandthelowertem-
peraturetrippointscanbeindependentlyprogrammed
withtheconstraintthatthedifferencebetweentheupper
andlowertemperaturethresholdsmustincrease.Exam-
