Performance Definitions
Jitter and Wander–Jitterandwanderaredefinedrespectivelyas“theshort-termandlong-termvariationsofthesignificant
instantsofadigitalsignalfromtheiridealpositionsintime”.Theyarethereforethephaseorpositionintimemodulationsofadigital
signalrelativetotheiridealpositions.Thesephasemodulationscaninturnbecharacterizedintermsoftheiramplitudeandfrequency.
Jitterisdefinedasthosephasevariationsatratesabove10Hz,andwanderasthosevariationsatratesbelow10Hz.
Fractional frequency offset and drift–Thefractionalfrequencyoffsetofaclockistheratioofthefrequencyerror(fromthe
nominalordesiredfrequency)tothedesiredfrequency.Itistypicallyexpressedas(npartsin10X),or(nx10-X).Driftisthemeasure
