L64388 Remote Access Processor (RAP) Chip
RAP System Example
Figure 4 illustrates a typical RAP-based system. The RAP chip’s MII
connects to a 10/100-Mbit Ethernet PHY. Its two TDM interfaces connect
to two Siemens 2186 ISDN transceivers. The modem interface connects
to an S/T 7546 V.34 data codec and a voice codec (not shown).

The Flash ROM and SDRAM on the local memory bus provide storage
for the V.34 modem software, the internetworking software, and data
structures.
The 32-bit, 3.3/5-volt PCI interface of the RAP chip connects directly to
both the PCI bus and other PCI communications devices. Multiple
RAP chips can be connected on the PCI bus, which is useful for server
applications.
