V.3.7- Phasecomparator inhibition
The phase comparatoris disabledunder twocon-
ditions :
- During framesync pulse (see Figure30)
Invertingthe line syncpulse containedwithin the
video signal will provide the frame sync pulses
required for thesynchronizationof verticalscan-
ning.
Since the current supply to comparator
φ
1 is
controlledby the line syncpulse, the comparator
must be inhibited at the time of line sync inver-
sionsso as to avoidoccurenceof phaseerrors at
the beginning of each frame.
This inhibition is activated during FRI (Frame
Retrace Inhibition)issued by framelogiccircuitry.
If
φ
1 is locked before the vertical scanning syn-
chronization occurs, (e.g. when switching be-
tween channels),and since FRI phase is not yet
correctly positioned,the
1 mustbe further inhib-
ited by FS signal which is the extracted frame
sync pulse.
- Duringline scanning(see Figures 31 and32)
This inhibition will eliminate the occurrence of all
possible phase errors due to a noisy syncsignal
or parasitics during the line scanning phase. It
yields excellent display stability at noisy video
signals.

(VCR = 0)
S
INH(LONG)
= Mute . (FRI + FS + BLK. LINE
INH
)
and S
INH(SHORT)
= 1
Inhibition is activated during, frame sync, FRI
and each time line trace interval - except at
frame beginningbetween lines8 and 21.
φ

(VCR = 1)
S
INH(SHORT)
= Mute . (FRI + FS) = S
INH(LONG)
In VCR mode, inhibition is disabled during line
trace since phase or frequency variations are
not taken into account instantenously.
