PRO MATE II: Universal Programmer
The PRO MATE II Universal Programmer is a full-fea-
tured programmer capable of operating in stand-alone
mode as well as PC-hosted mode.
The PRO MATE II has programmable V
supplies which allows it to verify programmed memory
at V

max for maximum reliability. It has
an LCD display for displaying error messages, keys to
enter commands and a modular detachable socket
assembly to support various package types. In stand-
alone mode the PRO MATE II can read, verify or pro-
gram PIC16C5X, PIC16CXX and PIC17CXX devices.
It can also set configuration and code-protect bits in
this mode.
In PC-hosted mode, the PRO MATE II connects to the
PC via one of the COM (RS-232) ports. PC based user-
interface software makes using the programmer simple
and efficient. The user interface is full-screen and
menu-based. Full screen display and editing of data,

mands such as read, verify, program and blank check
can be issued from the screen. Additionally, serial pro-
gramming support is possible where each part is pro-
grammed with a different serial number, sequential or

The PRO MATE II has a modular “programming socket
module”. Different socket modules are required for dif-
ferent processor types and/or package types.
PRO MATE II supports all PIC16C5X, PIC16CXX and
PIC17CXX processors.

PICSTART Low-Cost Development
System
The PICSTART programmer is an easy to use, very
low-cost prototype programmer. It connects to the PC
via one of the COM (RS-232) ports. A PC-based user
interface software makes using the programmer simple
and efficient. The user interface is full-screen and
menu-based. PICSTART is not recommended for pro-
duction programming.

MPLAB Integrated Development
Environment Software.
The MPLAB Software brings an ease of software
development previously unseen in the 8-bit microcon-
troller market. MPLAB is a windows based application
which contains:
A full featured editor
Three operating modes
- editor
- emulator
- simulator (available soon)
A project manager
Customizable tool bar and key mapping
A status bar with project information
Extensive on-line help
MPLAB allows you to:
Edit your source files (either assembly or “C”)
One touch assemble (or compile) and download
to PIC16/17 tools (automatically updates all
project information)
Debug using:
- source files
- absolute listing file
Transfer data dynamically via DDE (soon to be
replaced by OLE)
Run up to four emulators on the same PC
The ability to use MPLAB with Microchip’s simulator
(available soon) allows a consistent platform and the
ability to easily switch from the low cost simulator to the
full featured emulator with minimal retraining due to
development tools.
