Ring-Trip Current and Number of RENs
The equations are only valid for sinusoidal waveforms with a frequency of 16-30 Hz
applied to a REN load. It is important to take into account that when using other
waveforms, frequencies or loads, peak line current can exceed the calculated I
LTHpeak..
In these cases, replace the calculated I
LTHpeak., in the equations, with the actual peak line
current. When using a square wave signal the C
RT should be increased to 22 nF. The
programmable ring-trip current must be programmed to allow ringing on short lines,
without false ring-trip on the specified number of RENs. At long loop, the off-hook current
will be smaller than the programmed ring-trip current and no ring-trip is possible.This can
be solved with a small DC-offset, but will instead decrease the ringing voltage in the
example above. The value of the RRT resistor and the maximum loop length for still
detecting a ring-trip can be calculated using:
