Register
The MB89210 series has two types of registers; the registers dedicated to specific purposes in the CPU and
the general-purpose registers. The dedicated registers are as follows:
Program counter (PC)
: 16-bit length, shows the locations where instructions are stored.
Accumulator (A)
: 16-bit length, a temporary memory register for calculation operations. In the
case of an 8-bit data processing instruction, the lower one byte is used.
Temporary accumulator (T)
: 16-bit length, performs calculations with the accumulator. In the case of an
8-bit data processing instruction, the lower one byte is used.
Index register (IX)
: 16-bit length, a register for index modification.
Extra pointer (EP)
: 16-bit length, apointer indicating memory addresses.
Stack pointer (SP)
: 16-bit length, indicates stack areas.
Program status (PS)
: 16-bit length, contains register pointer and condition code.
