The singlepoint calibration works becausethe out-
put of the LM135, LM235,LM335 is proportionalto
the absolutetemperaturewith the extrapolatedout-

Thus a calibrationof the slope at one temperature
correctserrors at all temperatures.

Precautionsshouldbe takento ensure goodsens-
ingaccuracy.Asinthecaseofalltemperaturessen-
sors, self heating can decrease accuracy. The
LM135, LM235, LM335 should operate with a low
current,butsufficienttodrive thesensoranditscali-
brationcircuit to theirmaximum operatingtempera-
ture.
If thesensoris usedin surroundingswherethether-
malresistaneis constant,theerrorsduetoselfheat-
ing can be externally calibrated. This is possible if
the circuit is biased with a temperature stable cur-
rent.Heating will thenbe proportionalto zenervolt-
ageandthereforetemperature.Inthiswaytheerror
due to self heating is proportional to the absolute
temperatureas scale factor errors.
