System-on-a-chip embedded mixed-signal micro-
processor
The Z80S183 is a complete system-on-a-chip embed-
ded microprocessor. The powerful Z180 microprocessor
can address up to 1Mbyte. In addition, the Z80S183
integrates a vast peripheral suite designed to make this
product a true system-on-a-chip embedded micro-
processor. The Z80S183 includes an eight-channel ten-
bit A/D, a 10-bit D/A converter, 2 high-speed UARTS, 2
DMAs, 2 C/Ts, CSIO and an eight-channel complex
waveform generator (POG). Other features include a
watch-dog timer, a real-time clock, 32-bits of general
purpose I/O, 2K SRAM, and 1K boot ROM.
Power and performance
Like all Z180 class products, the Z80183 contains the
popular Z8S180 microprocessor. This CPU improves
the Z80 execution efficiency while still providing full
backward compatibility with existing ZiLOG Z80
devices. It offers faster execution speeds, EMI noise
reduction, and power-saving modes. Not only does the
core consume less power during normal operations,
it contains three power down modes to reduce power
consumption even more.
