Offering an outstanding combination of price, reliability, efciency (typically 87%),
and size (standard 2" x 2" package and pinout), DATEL’s new TWR Model 30W
Triple-Output DC/DC’s bring new levels of cost-effectiveness and exibility to design-
ers of central-ofce xDSL line cards and DSLAM’s. Operating from either 48V (36-
75V range) or 24V (18-36V range) inputs, TWR triples provide a 3.3V primary output
(up to 4A) for driving xDSL chip sets and DSP’s and either ±12V (@ ±625mA) or
±15V (@ ±500mA) auxiliary outputs for powering high-current, wide-bandwidth line
drivers/receivers
Unlike traditional triple-output designs which have both their primary and auxil-
iary outputs regulated by a single control loop, TWR 30W triples are essentially two
converters in one. Their unipolar 3.3V and bipolar ±12/15V converters each have
their own, independent, control loops. The unipolar 3.3V device exploits contem-
porary full synchronous-rectication techniques, and the bipolar device uses a
traditional forward architecture. These devices are fully input (overvoltage lockout,
undervoltage lockout, reverse-polarity protection) and output (current limiting, short-
circuit protection, overvoltage protection, thermal shutdown) protected to safeguard
both the power converter and its load.
