description
The TPPM0101 is a power distribution and management device designed primarily for either motherboard or
PCI card 1394 host applications where the power bus for external 1394 peripheral products is required. The
TPPM0101 is an electronic switch with low rDS(on) characteristics. When fully enhanced, the switch is capable
of delivering 1.5 A to the load. A combination of unidirectional and bidirectional switches implements a reverse
blocking scheme to ensure that no current flows out of the input terminal back into the primary voltage source.
In the event that excessive leakage current or back injection on the input terminal exceeds 20 mA, all outputs
are disabled.
An over-current protection scheme is implemented such that a load current in excess of 1.5 A on a particular
channel causes that channel to operate at a 2% of duty cycle until the fault condition is removed. The other
channel operates normally. A deglitch timer (60
s typ) is implemented to prevent false triggering of over-current
protection circuitry during initial power up (in-rush current) conditions. Transient shorts to ground of less than
the deglitch timer period of 60
s (typ) are not reported as a fault. Both output power switches are independently
protected against short to ground by a current-limit feature and are active during the over-current deglitch time.
During a short condition on any output channel, that particular output operates at a duty cycle of 2% every 3 ms.
The device functionality is automatically reset after the abnormal condition is removed.
In addition to over-current protection schemes, the device has a global thermal shutdown feature to ensure that
the junction temperature does not exceed the safe operating area (SOA). When global thermal shutdown is
triggered, all outputs are disabled until the device has had sufficient time to dissipate the heat and returns within
the SOA.
The input voltage source for this device is the highest voltage applied at any one of the following terminals,
INPUT (minus internal switch voltage drop), OUT1, OUT2, or CASCADE. (See voltage source priority section
