POWER DISSIPATION
There are three major contributors to power dissipation in the
motor drive: conduction losses, switching losses, and flyback
diode losses. Consider the following arbitrary operating condi-
tions for the 2 quadrant example using the PW-8X075.
VBUS = VCE = +200V
fPWM = 10kHz
duty cycle = 50% (ton = 50s; toff = 50s)
IO = IC = 40A, Module Output Current (see FIGURE 6)
during toff, If = IO
The power dissipation of the 2 quadrant example circuit shown in
FIGURE 6 can now be calculated using information from the
data sheet as follows:
Q1 - Transistor data (Output Stage)
TJ MAX = 150 °C (TABLE 2)
θJC.IGBT = 0.55°C/W (TABLE 2)
VCE(SAT) = 2.2V
EON (50A, 270V) = 1.5 mJ (TABLE 2)
