networkshowninFigure3,battery-basedprogramming
ofthenumberofseries-stackedcellscouldberealized
withoutdefeatingLTC4011detectionofbatteryinsertion
orremoval.Figure12showsa2-cellNiMHbatterypack
thatprogramsthecorrectnumberofseriescellswhenitis
connectedtothecharger,alongwithindicatingchemistry
andprovidingtemperatureinformation.
Anyofthesebatterypackchargecontrolconceptscouldbe
combinedinavarietyofwaystoservicecustomapplication
needs.Chargingparallelcellsisnotrecommended.
PCBLayoutConsiderations
To prevent magnetic and electrical field radiation and
highfrequencyresonantproblems,properlayoutofthe
componentsconnectedtotheLTC4011isessential.Refer
toFigure13.Formaximumefficiency,theswitchnode
riseandfalltimesshouldbeminimized.Thefollowing
PCBdesignprioritylistwillhelpensurepropertopology.
