APPLICATION HINTS
TheLM236,LM336voltagereferencesareeasierto
use than zener diodes. Their low impedance and
widecurrent range facilitate biasing in any circuits.
Besides,the breakdownvoltageor thetemperature
coefficientcanbeadjustedsoastooptimizetheper-
formanceof the circuit.
Figure 1 representsa LM336 with a 10k
potenti-
ometertoadjustthereversebreakdownvoltagecan
be adjustedwithout altering thetemperaturecoeffi-
cient of the circuit. The adjustmentrange is gener-
ally sufficientto adjusttheinitial toleranceof thecir-
cuit andthe inaccuracy of theamplifier circuit.
Toobtainalowertemperaturecoefficienttwodiodes
canbe connectedinseries as indicatedin Figure 2.
When the circuit is adjustedto 2.49V the tempera-
ture coefficientis minimized.
For a correct temperature coefficient, the diodes
should be at the same ambient temperatureas the
LM336. The value of R1is not critical (2-20k
).
